The role
Working with the Head of Asset Management & Operations (AMO), assist the continued development of an effective asset management framework for PMG.  Furthermore, to ensure that this is consistently put into practice and applied to the management of PMG’s portfolio of directly-held investments. 
As demand dictates, to assist the PMG investment teams across a range of ‘hands on’ asset management activities.
Act as an internal and external ambassador for PMG including exhibiting and promoting the PMG Terms of Trade and USSIM cultural values.

Key responsibilities
Own Function Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the PMG investment teams and management of PMG’s directly-held portfolio companies to maximise returns and preserve value
Through the annual asset management planning process, assist investment teams in developing and then challenging business strategy, operational focus and risk management through the definition of appropriate targets
Proactively monitor and assess performance versus those targets
Influence PMG activity through formal committees and working groups as well as regular informal discussions
Develop and maintain key internal and external relationships for the AMO function including establishing an expert “bench” of asset management talent that can be deployed for the benefit of PMG’s directly-held portfolio companies
Contribute to the development of appropriate incentive schemes to ensure alignment between management and PMG as a shareholder and ensure accountability is preserved
Where required, serve as non-executive director of portfolio companies/SPVs and execute all related responsibilities
Proactively contribute and provide constructive challenge at the Asset Management Committees and Portfolio Review Committee 
Assist the Head of AMO in formulating and implementing the AMO business strategy
PMG Responsibilities
Participate in the investment decision-making process via membership of Approval Committees, and Private Markets Investment Committee
Act as an internal and external role model for the PMG Terms of Trade and USSIM Values and Behaviours
Undertake coaching and mentoring of junior members of PMG staff
Promote the standing and reputation of USS/PMG/USSIM externally within the industry

Your experience
10 years+ financial services’ experience, ideally gained working in a similar role within a Pension Fund or Asset Management company; candidates with Financial Services’ consultancy experience would also be considered
Familiarity with ‘Alternatives’ asset classes and ‘direct’ investing (e.g. Private Equity, Infrastructure/Real Assets) is essential
Familiarity with industry-standard valuation practices and knowledge of key financial terms
Highly numerate (Accountancy qualification is considered advantageous but not a necessity)
Attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication
Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
Self-starter with ‘can do’ attitude, highly organised and ability to prioritise
Project management, business analysis or consulting experience is considered a plus
